The South African Society of Orthodontists (SASO)expresses its concern with respect to the outbreak of COVID-19. SASO is monitoring the global situation as well as the suggested guidelines from various organizations around the world, in order to provide its members in South Africa with the best possible information. Information from respected experts is being monitored, assimilated and updated continually in the interests of all concerned. SASO’s objective is to ensure as best as possible that the health and safety of the public, patients, practitioners and staff are viewed as being of paramount importance. These are difficult times and it is imperative that we work together to prevent the spread of the virus. Please be sure to inform your orthodontist if you have traveled recently, or have been in contact with people who have traveled recently.
In addition, please also inform your orthodontist if you have experienced any symptoms of coronavirus infection, or if those you have been in contact with have experienced any such symptoms. In such instances, appointments should be rescheduled for a later date when safety has been ensured.
Please adhere to the practice conditions which orthodontists are putting in place for your protection. Such decisions have not been taken lightly, are based on expert information and guidelines, and are not designed to incur hardship or inconvenience, but rather to protect all concerned.
It is of utmost importance that we all act as responsibly as possible in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. SASO wishes to thank you for your kind understanding.
